Appointments by Referral from Primary Care Provider

Electromyography (EMG) is used to study muscle, spinal cord and spinal nerve function. EMG testing provides your doctor with specific information about the extent of muscle, spinal cord and spinal nerve injury. This test is performed by Dr. Sponsler.

The nerve conduction study (NCS) is done by one of our skilled techs. The purpose of the study is to determine if nerves in the arms and legs have neuropathy (sick nerves). A common diagnosis is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) is a test for optic neuritis (nerve inflammation) and demyelinating (destruction of the myelin sheath) events along optic nerves. The myelin is the fatty protein which wraps arounds and protects the nerve cells. Demyelinating is the major underlying factor responsible for the symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS).

The Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER) is a test which records potentials from the central auditory (hearing) pathways of the brainstem.

Video EEG Monitoring Test (VEEG) The Video EEG Monitoring Test is a more specialized form of an EEG test in which the patient is constantly monitored over a video screen. This allows doctors to observe brainwave activity during the time a seizure or spell is occurring. This test can be conducted for various lengths of time, ranging from a 40-minute study to 3 consecutive days (72 hours). The longer studies are done at Mat Su Regional Hospital under the watchful eyes of a technologist and RNs around the clock.

A Tilt Table Test is performed to determine if the cause of passing out is due to neurocardiac syncope. This is a condition that can cause the loss of consciousness due to a drop in blood pressure and a rise in heart rate called tachycardia. The heart beats fast and not enough blood reaches the brain. The brain compensates by shutting down, thus the passing out of the patient.

During the test, you are securely strapped onto a table that is moved from a reclining position to a heads-up, 70-degree angle. The purpose of these changing positions is to see if a loss of consciousness is induced under a medically-supervised, well controlled situation.
